Why Glowarmers Refuse to Debate

With all the available evidence glowarmers claim to have that supports man made global warming, or the modern version climate change, a person has to wonder why they are trying to stop debate. Upon closer examination, the reasons become clear. Once people get the facts, the case for man made global warming falls apart. There is no way glowarmers can win a debate, as their case is weak.

Here are some interesting facts that glowarmers don’t want you to hear.

The Earth has gone through several cycles of warming and cooling. The most recent warming, between 1860 and 1998, was not a dramatic warming when you take into account past warming periods. The one warming period that we have the most evidence and eyewitness account of is known as the Medieval Warm Period. This period lasted from about 900 AD to 1300 AD. All evidence suggests that during this time period temperatures were on average 4 degrees warmer then today’s average temperatures. The switch to this warm period, according to proxy data, happened in a matter of 20 years.

The Viking sailed through the north Atlantic, a trip that would be impossible for them to make today since that area has some of the roughest seas in the world, to what is now known as Greenland and gave it it’s name because most of it was green and not covered in ice as it appears today. They went further west to what is now Nova Scotia and named it Vineland because they found a land covered in grape vines. Today the land is far too cold to grow grapes. We know that the Vikings settled both of these lands because they left not only written account of their journeys they also left archeological records.

During this period, England became known for its wines. This is also impossible for them to do today, as it is too cold to grow grapes in England.

After the Medieval Warm Period cam what is known as the Little Ice Age, a period between 1300 and 1850. During this period of time temperatures worldwide dropped an average 6 degrees. Crops started failing around the world. Civilizations started dying off as a result. Snow started falling so rapidly on Greenland and Nova Sosia that the Vikings had to abandon their farms and vineyards as they became permanently covered in ice. Civilizations in southern Europe that had mined and quarried rocks in the Alps had to abandon their mines and quarries as they became buried in snow.

Going even further back in time to the last interglacial period, proxy records show that temperatures swung wildly from year to year. Temperatures varied by as much as 20 degrees. During this period proxy records show that precipitation ever swung wildly fro0m extreme droughts to flooding. These facts have lead almost all paleo Climatologist to conclude that the relative stability we have been seeing this interglacial period is abnormal.

Now lets go back to the present day. From 1860 to 1998 the average temperature rose by .7 degrees. Considering what we know about the sudden change into the Medieval Warm Period, the warming of less then 1 degree in 183 years doesn’t seem all that alarming. It is well within normal variations.

Since 1998 there has actually been a decrease in average temperatures, not an increase as the glowarmers was predicting. This cooling trend now is being acknowledged as there is no way they can hide the fact that the Earth has cooled because of the record cold being reported around the world this year. A recent study by a glowarmers has even predicted a continuation of this cooling for the next 15 years. After that they are claiming a continuation of global warming. Knowing what we know based on previous events, there is a likelihood that after this cooling period, however long it lasts, that there will be a warming period. It won’t be because of humans though. It is all part of the natural processes that control temperature and climate.

In one of your articles you state that it is too cold in England to grow grapes. On the contrary, England has a thriving wine industry and the products compare well with continental products.
However, the industry is comparatively small as we do not have the land to spare. Splinter

Matt,

I suggest before putting all this effort into a climate blog that you put some effort into taking a couple of basic earth sciences classes first. Unless that is you don't really care to understand the science. Much of what you have written here is nonsense - I'll give you one example - Greenland was almost all ice in the MWP, as it is today. Is pretty obvious why this has to be true if you think about it...Hint: sea-level

This is one of the dumbest canards from the skeptics that keeps popping up no matter how many times its refuted. if you are really interested in learning about this issue, let me know and I'll point out some of the others that you seem to have bought into...

Cheers

Thank you for all this information. I will pass this around.

Cam, I do in fact have a vast knowledge in Earth Sciences. I have several college credits in Earth Science. If you would take the time to read what was posted, I did not say that the entire Island of Greenland was free from Ice. Quite a bit of it was though.

Take a look at the region where Eric the Red had his settlement. At one time the entire area was free from ice, now only about 30% of it is still free from ice.

The problem you and many other glowarmers seem to have is you think glaciers are in a fixed position. Glaciers move. In essence they are frozen rivers.

I would suggest it is you that need to take a few classes before you make nonsensical claims.

Thank you for your comments.
